Pico de Gallo: Recipe | Checks | Stripes | Chevron | Polka Dots

Whether you prefer traditional salsas or more modern flavors, there’s no shortage of delicious options to choose from. The fabrics included in this post were inspired by Pico de Gallo, also known as Salsa Fresca, or Rooster’s Beak. It is a type of salsa made with fresh tomatoes, red onions, chili peppers, jalapenos, cilantro, and lime juice. It’s typically chunky in texture and has a bright, tangy flavor. Perfect for topping tacos, grilled meats, and seafood, adding to salads, or just for loading up on sturdy chips.

Homemade salsa can be fairly easy to make and allows you to customize the ingredients and flavors to your liking.

Pico de Gallo

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium-sized ripe tomatoes, diced
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, seeds removed and finely chopped
  • 1 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Juice of 1-2 limes
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Wash and dice the tomatoes, finely chop the red onion, jalapeño, and cilantro. Mince the garlic.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, chopped red onion, jalapeño, cilantro, and minced garlic.
  3. Seasoning: Squeeze lime juice over the mixture. Start with the juice of one lime and add more to taste. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Mix Well: Gently toss all the ingredients together until well combined. Taste and adjust lime, salt, and pepper as needed.
  5. Chill: For best flavor, cover the bowl and let the Pico de Gallo chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to meld.
  6. Serve: Pico de Gallo is perfect as a topping for tacos, nachos, grilled meats, or as a refreshing dip with tortilla chips.

The vibrant mix of colors is the inspiration for the fabric designs I created in the Green Carbon 2112 new Salsa Collection on Spoonflower.
