My First Novelty Purse
My novelty bag obsession started with a big, fuzzy teddy bear head when I was about three years old. What did I carry around in it? My fabulous coin purse shaped like a moccasin. Since then, I’ve just adored functional things that look like other things. Bags shaped like animals, teapots like giant flowers, chairs shaped like fruit. The first (and only) time I saw the Oscar Mayer Weiner Mobile in person, I may have freaked out a little bit. And now I realize the Richard Scarry books I was obsessed with in my youth probably have something to do with my love of novelty cars. He had cars in his books shaped like bananas, hotdogs, pickles, and everyone remembers Lowly Worm driving the apple car.
